I have some cookies which I can’t remove and reading on MajorGeeks it seems that Ewido is the software to get rid of these But the Ewido download link doesn’t seem to be working.
Also when I search on these forums there are a few posts about Ewido that are a little un nerving.

    The Problem
It seems that windows XP is like indexing my HD too often to for too long
I’m getting egg timer for a few seconds when I click on a different window.

    What I’ve done so far

I own (paid for) superantispyware and have run the complete scan with the latest updates (took ages) but didn’t find anything other that the usual couple of tracking cookies.

    What I think.
I use winpatrol and have done for over a decade, it is the first thing I install when I build a PC.
I use it to manage cookies it shows me all the cookies and I can tick the ones I want to keep and periodically get rid of all the rest.

I go into winpatrol View cookies and Remove unchecked and tons of them are deleted leaving only the ones I want. EXCEPT this little block of cookies that won’t go away
I’ve uploaded a screen shot here showing them. http://www.kaneresearch.com/images/bad_cookie.gif

I searched around and found a post entitled “hard drive runs every couple of seconds” on techspot.com which is my symptom and is related to these stats.esomniture.com cookies.

Although Ewido is available for download on the net I only really trust MajorGeeks and would much prefer to download it from here.

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cookies are not problems. Please see step 12 of this link >> How to Protect yourself from malware!

Ewido has not been used in many years. It was eventually changed into AVG AntiSpyware and then Grisoft incorporated AVG AntiSpyware directly into their antivirus program. But either way, cookies are not problems and you can always remove the manually with your browser and also just by deleting the files yourself from the browser cache. For example in Firefox, click Tools, Privacy, Show Cookies, and Remove All Cookies. But this is a waste of your time and it will remove saved passwords for websites.

If you are really worried that your PC is infected then you should be following the instructions in the below:

READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker)

Thanks chaslang, I removed them manually using firfox options, sorry I should have know that..

The HD indexing thing is just as likely to be me turning some XP option off as malware. its when I go anywhere near the disk its - egg timer short wait, I think its indexing and I sort of remember turning something off but I can't remember where.
It's just an annoyance thats all.

Still red faced over the firefox option to delete cookies which I didn't know about lol.

    Thanks again matey.
