Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, dead at 44

Steve died yesterday noon, Australian time, while diving off Port Douglas, north of Cairns.

He apparently swam too close over a stingray and startled it. It lashed out and it's spear like tail struck Steve directly in the chest and punctured his heart.
He died almost immediately despite all attempts to revive him.

A great Aussie larrikin, and conservationist.
He will be sorely missed by all that met him, or saw him in his movie, or on TV.

The news has hit Australians like a bombshell.
The only similar events would be the deaths of JFK and Lady Diana.

Expressions of sympathy are flooding in to his wildlife themepark with 400 staff.
Also to Terri (his American wife) and kids, Bindi and Bob.
