Xmas is coming around and I was thinking a new video card however I'm stick if I should stick with Nvidia or go with an ATI card. Thinking I can get two ati cards for the price of one nvidia card.

    I was thinking a GTX 275 or a ATI 5850 or two 5770's

I'm a little worried about drivers and quality control as in the past I have had an ATI card die so I'm wondering since AMD took them over have they improved?

    Any comments?

Just add an extra comment I have enough power to run a Corssfire setup Corsair 750w PSU

I think since AMD took over they have improved quite a bit. Intel knocked AMD for a 6 with their latest CPU ranges (from about 2006 onwards) and AMD did a very smart thing when they bought ATI out. They have spent a lot of time and effort in making an affordable and highly competitive Video Card range and many have switched because of the "bang for buck" value of the ATI. This is allowing a AMD to make up losses from their CPU range until they get these back on track.

The other sides of me is like Go with the NVidia card I'm stuck now

I guess I'll figure it out.

I am running a GTX 260 on an i7 rig and it is lightning fast, i also have a GTX 295 that is lying in the box for the moment because no matter how i try i can not keep it cool but if i can find a way it will definitely go in the i7.

I love Nvidia cards even though they are more expensive than ATI.

My apologies if this is a hijack but, if you look on youtube there are many video tutorials on how to set Riva Tuner to cool your Nvidia card. My GTX285 has yet to break 70c even while playing Crysis on the snow levels (for instance).

Also used the tutorials to cool my 4870x2 and that never overheats. Plus your configuration can set the fan(s) to regulate spin-up according to temps, thus running quiet when not under load. Both cards idle @ 35-37c depending on ambient temps (but the 4870x2 core 2 runs 2-3c higher because heat from core 1 passes over it while exhausting out the case)

Here is another exceptional tool for modding Fan Profiles also with exceptional monitoring:

    MSI AfterBurner

Works on any ATI Card (doesn't have to be MSI) I'm not sure whether it will work with nVidia. Basically it is better than combining CCC + GPU-z + RivaTuner imho, gives some OC options as well (NOT for the inexperienced, you break it and it's YOUR fault!).
