"Sticky" Web pages?

I've noticed that the codes of certain Web pages are written so that once you're on that page, you can no longer use your back button. The only way to get off the page is to click a link on it or type another URL into the browser. Is there a way I can format my internet options so a site doesn't hijack me like this, or is there a way to break the "sticky" code? Thanks!

One possible escape is to press Ctrl and Tab. If two or more browser icons show up in a pop-up window, press Tab again, and when you release Tab, you'll be returned to the last page you were on before you got to the trapping site. If you get no choices (or nothing happens) when you use the key combo, close the browser with the X, then re-open it and use the History function to find the places you visited earlier and want to return to.

 

I don't know if you have tried this, but I have found that if I right click on the back button, I can usually go elsewhere.
