My ISP installed a new system for me this week, it is fibre optic and is super fast.
I have only the distribution router they supplied and am hard wired to it but my PC is still picking up a WiFi network from the router.
Is there any way i can disable this funtion??

Bill, I was hoping I'd get that answer from you. I had my ld LP Repaired- (but Majorgeeks repaired it) Then I got what I thought was tempory LP- and it (and infecting my old) keeps telling me "Your wifi is open!" Auh!
I just turn it off and pull the power cord out. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Bill

You can either access the router and disable WiFi directly (most routers have this oprion) or in Services stop and disable the Windows Zero Configuration service or WLAN AutoConfig service (depends on Windows version)

I tried that David but it does not let disable it via the direct route, i will contact my ISP and see if there is a way with this new technology.

I had my old system closed to WiFi but this is a new system that they have let a number of clients test before they roll it out to all comers.

It is just an extra precaution against WiFi hackers, ( i know we have one close by) and i would rather educate him rather than get the authorities involved.

    Hi Bill

Best option to contact the ISP as they should know but just as I'm curious whats the Router make and model?

There is no name or model on it. all it has is TELENET who is the ISP and a number that identifies my network.

Ah I see Bill, if you enter the routers menu does it tell you who made it? I know my O2 router is made by Thompson by using this route.

I contacted my ISP and they do the configuration with this system via a direct link (see photo) the normal 198.168.1.1 does not allow access.

Sorry it is in Dutch :-D
But uitgeschakeld means the wifi is off.
