My computer will reboot and do a scan after I've been using it for about 15 minutes. I put a new power supply in it and I've tried different monitors and different video cards and it still does it.

    Abit Be6 R2 motherboard
    Pentium 700 CPU
    300 watt PSU
    40 WD hard drive
    Diamond 64 video card
    Win 98 OS
    256K crucial RAM

I would like to keep this computer for my kids stuff. I aready purchased a temporary computer to get me by. Any help would greaty appreciated

    Hey Charlie,

You mentioned it doing a scan, what kind of scan?

Also, could it be something you are doing at the time it reboots, maybe games, word processing, any kind of application or performing certain tasks that causes the reboot?

It scans C drive like when you just turn off the power. After you restart and it says the computer wasn't shut down properly. Yesterday I was playing freecell when it rebooted.

Don't give up, you will get some more suggestions I'm sure. :)

Double-check things like drivers, make sure the fan is running, connections are clean and securely in place.

Check the cpu fan and make sure it runs continuously. Also have you swapped out the memory?

If the battery on the motherboard was going bad would it cause this problem?

This problem could be purely a mess up with you CPU or worst of all your hard drive I have found that alot of my friends have had this problem me myself had it a mattger of days ago i may add, my soloution which worked was the fan idea, I simply took out my fan wiped off the residue on the chip with a non static tissue, must be non static of it may mess it up. and then you caqn either use a hoover to suck the dust from your current fan then replace the heat sink on the bottom of the fan. or you can just buy a new one. thermal paste goes a treat too :p.

If this problem is HD related then your will simple have to replace the hardrive but it could be that the cables are faulty and need replacing.

How long have you had your HD and CPU because they generally do die after a while.

    please reply soon
