    Hi

Recently I got two 'error loading' messages on boot, for stlb2.dll and E6F1873B.dll.

I've read through the thread on the same subject by flasunshine as well as the 'read this first' thread and followed every step in the 'read this first' thread faithfully including the additional 6 scans. I purchased Registry Manager and used it, downloaded the SP2 patch for XP (am installing it now) and switched to firefox and thunderbird (it's been a busy couple of days...).

Every scan now comes up clean BUT, while I have the latest versions of the programmes you recommend I have failed to get rid of these two error messages.

    Could someone help me?

As an addendum, I've now removed Java as instructed and loaded Sun Java however am now getting very annoying and frequent Office 2000 installation windows which, when cancelled, are followed by a message saying 'Visual basic environment unable to initialise'.

It's looking for the file 'data1.msi' which I don't have as this computer is second hand and did not come with discs (ex-office computer). Think I need professional help now, apologies

Hello Major, thanks for checking in.

I've read through the HJT tutorial but not yet run HJT - is that the tutorial you mean?

I have a 266mhz PC running XP (my husband upgraded it from Win98 as a 'surprise'). It's 2nd hand & the only maintenance I do is a quarterly defrag and weekly scans.

I read the 'VX2 that won't die' thread and ran start/run/regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\System32\stlb2.dll but got a message saying 'load library (C:\WINDOWS\System32\stlb2.dll) failed - The specific module could not be found' so could still use some advice.

I also haven't found a fix for the missing data1.msi file and looking around it seems a difficult one to fix. I really appreciate any help that anyone can give at this point.

    many thanks

Ok, me again if anyone is checking. I just want to say thank you for having this site up, it's amazing.

I've run HJT and eliminated a few things as per the tutorial and all my initial problems are now gone, even the .dll messages. All scans are clean and the computer is running very fast.

I still have the data1.msi problem but am going to buy a registerable copy of Office and reinstall it to see if this will work. If not, I may ask for advice if someone is willing to help.

Many thanks for the site it's an excellent resource - if I'd read through everything in more detail I needn't have even posted so apologies for time wasting.

    sparx
