    hello,
i just had this same BSOD problem with a dell laptop, after it had been infected by a nasty virus (not sure which one yet, still fighting it)...
after a few visits to the recovery console, i realized (based on the file creation date) that the virus had left a new version of boot.ini in the root...
fortunately, there was a boot.bak file from a few months ago...
so i renamed all the virus boot files and renamed the boot.bak to boot.ini,
and was able to get the computer to boot again...
i realize it is not the same situation but maybe it is helpful...
    thanks,
    greg
