STOP: 0x0000008E BSOD

Hi guys, can anyone help me with a BSOD problem the technical details are,

Technical information:
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x807C59E1, 0x9525C7B8, 0x00000000)
Ataport.SYS – Address 807C1000, DateStamp 47918f74

I am not sure whether this is a hard drive problem or not. I was thinking about deleting the ataport.sys file on safe mode but I'm not sure if this is safe or not, though it seems to be the root of the problem.

You may have a rootkit virus ... try this .. http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip

Download the TDSSKiller.zip archive and extract it into a folder on the infected (or possibly infected) computer with an archiver (WinZip, for example);

Run the TDSSKiller.exe file;

Wait until the scanning and disinfection completes. A reboot might require after the disinfection has been completed.

Do you remember making any recent changes to the computer prior to this issue?

I don't recall making any changes prior to it happening. It's a vista laptop as well so I'm not sure how relevant that link is but thanks anyhow, appreciate it.
