Stored Password Question

I used CCleaner before I closed down my computer about an hour ago.

I just started it up again. Out of curiosity, I ran CCleaner before I did anything else. It removed stored passwords.

Can you explain why that happened? No one else has legal access to this computer, and I didn't visit any sites or email before I ran CC.

I know Gmail was hacked and I have proof. Who do I contact to report this person? The local police are not interested.

So who used my computer while it was sit down?

You have not explained your situation clearly but I can make out that it is related to something like your Gmail Password was stolen.

Now it may not be someone physicly accsesing your computer but a keylogger logging every keystroke and sending it to another computer over the internet.

The police will not interested in petty things like this because it's your responsiblity to keep it safe.

If you still have acsess to the account I do believe with Gmail you can view the IP which the Gmail account has been accsessed in the past week.

I'm not interested in whether the police think it's my responsibility or not. What I need to know if there is a site where I can report this person. The police have their hands full dealing with the death threats.

My Gmail account was hacked. Passwords on other sites, including MG, were changed twice.

If CCleaner clears out stored passwords BEFORE I close down, why are there stored passwords when I reopen and run CC before visiting any sites or opening a browser? Very often I don't go onto the Internet for hours because I work on my computer. So the stored passwords are there for anyone to "crack"? Seems pointless to keep changing them or using different ones for each site. Might as well use my real name and save all the fuss and bother.

I don't use Firefox or IE, and I don't store passwords on either.

There is no site that you can report this person, and I take it you know who they are so I suggest consulting them,
also think about it what site would be interested in such an event, it's not like the world would benefit from such a site and what would be the aim? to hack the script kiddie back for revenge.

And as I previously said it may not be just from them gaining access to where passwords are stored but instead it may be a case
of you having a key-logger which doesn't matter if passwords are stored or not which to me sounds like more of the case.

I suggest you get some protection for your computer and run a Spy-Bot Search and Destroy.

You can log into your GMail account and at the bottom of the inbox page will be a blue link titled>
Last account activity with a link under in blue titled Details. Click on that and you will see all IP addresses that have accessed the account.

Then you can do an IP search with http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp to find out the IP provider. Then you can contact the provider and lodge a complaint!

Many thanks, TimW. I will do that because I want to close my gmail accounts. Gmail is dangerous.

A friend was denied access to gmail, probably by the same person who hacked me. He managed to get back in but, in the process, was dismayed to learn how much information gmail gives out about those who have accounts with them. Everything about you is out there for anyone to find. I'm just glad I have never put any banking information in the Internet.

Unless they provide computers to patients in loony hospitals, I'm glad to say that is one hacker who will be disappearing for a while any time now.

So let me try to explain the problem with Ccleaner a bit better.

    1. I run CC ALWAYS before I close down my computer.
    2. I open my computer and run CC before clicking on any site or program.
    3. CC tells me there are loads of temporary files and other things stored.
    4. Most of those things were deleted by CC before I closed down earlier.

Does that make it easier to understand? This has happened twice and I need to know why.

I always trusted CC but now I'm not so sure. Is it a problem with CC or did someone hack into my computer?

I have a question for you. In checking your HJT log, your reported IP address goes to Westminster, UK. However, your IP address that you signed up with here at MG's goes to a town south of Calgary, Canada. This is strange, unless you are using a proxy server. Are you?

That's weird. I haven't lived in the UK since 1973, and I was never on the Internet there, even if it existed at that time.

Since 1973, I've lived right in Calgary City, Alberta, Canada and your emails come to my mail address with Nucleus (nucleus.com), whom I've been with ever since I got on the Internet. Anything you get from anywhere else is not me but could be the hacker who also lives in Calgary and uses Nucleus. They are aware of the problem and are watching my account closely. If you want me to PM you with his email information and the names he uses, I will do so willingly. I will also email you proof that this is the real me, if you like.

I am aware that someone is using my Live Mail to send out stuff. When I run a Comodo Internet Security scan, it shows activity in and out at the bottom of the page -- and out is very active. Whether it's somebody using my email or whether it's the hacker copying things over, I don't know. There are also times when I can't even open any of the programs I have installed, so someone gets in here regularly - and I live alone.

No, I don't use a proxy and this is my only computer. Lately, some odd things have been going on and I know I've been hacked in several places. I can prove it and will when we get to court. If you check your records, you'll see that I contacted you because the hacker had changed my password and I couldn't get in. MG is not the only site where he's done that. Luckily they were sites I'd been on for years, like MG, so they sort of knew me.

I'm open to suggestions on how to stop this. My Dell Vista recovery OS didn't exist in the tower but I am getting a disk mailed to me. Nucleus will then take the old OS out and put the new one in. Until that happens, I don't know what else I can do.

Maybe your hacker broke into your house while back and put cameras up in your place. To spy on you and getting your info from there as well. Sounds weird but you could try checking around in some things like vents, fire detectors, stuff that can come off and face your computer.

Good idea but I've been on watch because he's installed cameras in ceilings and walls of two of my neighbors. (Their court cases come up during the next two months, mine might happen at the same time.) There are times when I take my Doberman/Rottweiler out for short walks, so he'd have to be fast. While she's in the house he doesn't have a chance of getting in. He has spy cameras set up in various places to record everything happening in this street, he also has audio receivers set up, and he has one of those megaphone things that allow him to hear conversations up to a mile away. The man and his wife are paranoid. They threatened to kill their daughter so the police moved her and her son out of the city for safety but I refuse to move from the house I've lived in for 25 years. They have accused me through the court of murdering their daughter and grandson, and inciting someone to set fire to six house. Aren't you scared to have me as a member?

If you think I'm the nut case around here, PM or email me and I'll send you scanned court documents as attachments and give you my lawyer's name and the idiot's names. I'll also be coming out with some very interesting blogs soon and I'll send you a link.

I use two names on the Internet, both my real name - <snip> Feel free to look me up (try Amazon.com) - I'm not the horse-jumper Pam.

I'm sure you have other ways of checking who I am via my email address.

Now - how about some help in dealing with this turd?

In honor of your sigh, here are two of the names the man uses - <snip>. Check u-tube for him.

Wow. Do none of you use locks?? :confused How does he get in? Is he the landlord?

I think this has to stop here. Deal with the matter appropriately with the police/courts, not in a public forum. Then just use the forums regularly. I think you have already decided to format your PC, no?

Replying to email from MG here.

No, he isn't my landlord. I own my own house. I believe my lock was picked a few months ago so I changed it. A later attempt was made to crush it but it's solid brass and didn't work.

Is anyone ready to believe my dog leapt up and shoved the deadbolt across? That's exactly what she did and we had to force the door open and wreck the frame in the process.

Ah, you feel you can make all sorts of sly remarks totally unlike any other Major Geek on here, but truth has a way of offending you. I have been as open with MG as I can be, and you are all free to check on me. If I have something to say, I say it and don't resort to sarcasm.

I have already told you the police are no more interested that you are, and I wonder why. I'm currently checking if he is here on some sort of amnesty agreement which forbids police to charge him with anything.

I am not making sly remarks, I just think you need to be careful naming names the way you have... I have just heard enough of the whole hacking business, I am not saying I am not insterested or do not care but this is not the place for you to be discussing it. You never did get OTL to run I guess? You didn't attach the log anyway. OK, so I hope it is understood now that you keep the business of the hacking between yourself the courts and the police. :) Thankyou.

I do not feel guilty about naming names because he set a precedent and my name is in several places on the internet including u-tube, for which I did not give permission. If he can do it, I'm starting to do it too. The police tell me he has done nothing wrong so neither am I. Watch for my videos on u-tube, they're already on Photobucket.

I am sorry that it has to be Major Geeks but I know he compromised my password and account here. There must be a record of that around because I contacted MG at the time and you sent me a new password via email. It would be nice if you had a verification SSL like some other sites, then you'd know which URL is contacting you.

As I explained, it needs to stop, you need to stop venting about it all on this forum. You need to talk to the police not us. We cannot help you. If you believe he hacked into your MG account then email Tim@majorgeeks.com or Jim@majorgeeks.com and take it up with them privately. I do not wish to see anything else posted about the matter on the forum. Thankyou for your understanding and co-operation. If you continue to do this despite my warning then you are breaking rules. :(

I have edited out the names. Do not use anyone's real life names on Major Geeks again. If you have specific questions regarding your computer or software, ask away. Please keep the personal stuff to yourself.

This thread has gone way off topic so I'm closing it.
