straaaange laptop freezing

I really hadnt done anything abnormal before this started happening so I wouldnt know what to reverse, but here are my symptoms when it locks up;
- my mouse moves around fine but i cant click anything
- all the keyboard functionality stops but the following
- the windows key functionality is fine
- i can presse ctrl/alt/del and get to the "lock computer" screen and the keyboard and mouse work fine there
- I can open all the things with my windows key and the Fn key

I can give more details if anyone thinks they know what this is

This is my system
Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop
2.0 ghz Pentium M
1 gig of ram
100 gb 5400 rpm
6800 GO 256 mb

Thanks for any help, just to add, when i look at the task manager when it locks up i see nothing abnormal at all and ive tried system restore
