Firefox is my default browser. I have MSIE 6 for when I go onto the Microsoft site ('cause it often doesn't play nice with Mozilla browsers), but it is usually idle.

A few weeks ago I started getting a pop-up when I did a warm boot: "Do you want to allow software such as ActiveX controls and plug-ins to run?" I respond "No" and get the following messge "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a result, the page may not display correctly."

Software recently installed includes ooVoo (video conferencing) and Diskeeper 2008 (disk defrag). These and all other applications seem to be working fine. Automatic Updates is set for notification only. I use Norton Internet Security 2008 for malware protection. The OS is Windows XP/Pro (SP2) with all the latest patches (except SP3).

    Any ideas? :confused

To me this sounds like your home page uses activex and maybe another plugin or two. When you reboot, your browser loses the cookies so it asks you about the settings on your home page because it has lost your preferences.

Since I last posted, I think I have narrowed the problem down to one application: the ooVoo video chat client that runs on my XP/Pro system. The pop-up only happens immediately after the ooVoo software is started. I have no idea why it needs ActiveX support, but that is the only time the error message appears. Needless to say, I've submitted a query to the ooVoo folks to get some answers.

    Thanks ....
