Strange connection problem

After hours of wasting my time i hope someone can help me on this forum
I use linksys wireless adapter for my internet,today i pluged cable directly to my computer so i dont have to use wireless anymore and can browse internet on linux os,since it wont support my wireless. But i ran into problem,after pluggin cable,my internet is extremly slow on both os, my windows xp and linux. I checked everything! Cable is good,old driver from wireless uninstalled,no viruses/spyware , i just dont know what it is !! my step dad said it might be corrupted motherboard,but my computer brand new,even tho i know it might be the case but i refuse to believe in this. It might be strange but my fathers comp is working allright,his another comp is working allright but my current and old computers are not working properly,internet is SLOW,i check all of em with same cable !!

Anyone have ANY ideas? I apreciate any help !

 

Try resetting your router and make sure the firmware is up to date.
Make sure the computers are not infected with viruses.

is your wireless router secured? WEP or WPA enabled?

 

No,thats the strange thing,i dont know whats wrong! Everything is checked ! But somehow wireless working but direct connection to cable modem isnt,its just slow.
Could it be motherboard problem??? Other than that computer is working fine! I just need set this computer directly to modem, or i wouldnt even waste my time

 

if your router is not secured with WEP or WPA then it's possible that someone is on your router using your bandwidth.

I had a similar problem with my DSL and linksys router and affected my second computer as well, that I could not figure out for weeks!!!

I was lucky to get a guy by phone that really new his stuff at earthlink tek help...
In a half hour all my problems were solved and both computers working and all links and favoites back, connected to the DSL without the router...the day before one of those teks told me my system had a major problem...
Turns out it was my router and I think, some tweaks on their end...
Two days later he helped me re-connect the router in about 15 min. everything as it was...for 2 weeks now!!!
I think it was a couple of outages 2 weeks in a row, for 2 days, from earthlink that started the whole thing???

Thx for answers everyone,i still cant resolve problem tho,gonna try to see if it works on my other computer,if it does its probbaly my new comps hardware..and it sucks cuz i dont have my worranty anymore since i put my new video card....ahhh
