OK, this is a strange one for me. I'm by no means a networking genius, so bear with me.
I downloaded a new installation of Norton and had to uninstall the original to install it. I'm running Vista home premium on this PC, by the way. After the uninstall, I did the re-start. I got a message saying that a problem ocurred and it was checking the hard drive. Since then, it cannot see my wireless router. A few days later, my laptop running XP pro stopped seeing the router. The computers are not networked. They could see other connections in the neighborhood, but not mine. My PSP and Ps3 still connected. I thought I'd try a new router so I got a new Liksys N and same problem. Took it back and exchanged for a Dlink and same deal. The laptop will connect if wired to a port, but the PC cannot see it even then. I did a system recovery on the laptop and of course I got the "no windows root\system32\hal.dll" message, so that doesn't help. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP ME!!

I am not a major geek just a regular geek. My thought is, uninstall norton and make sure all other router softwares are completly uninstalled and start from scratch with your origional router. Maybe get yourself back online with out Norton then try and install it again... just a thought*

    Hi lchatten,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Can you please tell me if you have Norton Internet Security 2009 or Norton 360 version 3 installed?

The Norton installer worked as design when it removed previous versions of your Norton product. If you have not already done so, turn off your router and modem for a minute and then turn them back on. You may also want to re-create your internet connection within Windows Vista and delete the current connection.

The fact that Windows detected a problem with your hard drive, points to a possible problem with your hard drive or it may have been caused by an infection.

I would suggest that you run the Windows "Chkdsk" utility 2-3 times, restarting in between. After you do this step, launch your Norton product, manually run LiveUpdate, restart if any updates were installed and then perform a "Full System Scan" (Norton Internet Security 2009). Or a "Comprehensive Scan"(Norton 360 version 3) to make sure you do not have any infections.

Please let me know if you still have the same issues after completing the steps I listed and also, which Norton product you are using.

    Thank you,
    Mike

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this. Figured out the problem: A wireless camera we use as a baby monitor! Seems like one of the first things you would check for interference... the thing is, we've had it running for about three straight months. All of a sudden, the laptop and pc can't see our wireless network. Like I said, my PS3 and PSP didn't have that problem. Yet, the laptop and pc could connect to other wireless networks in the neighborhood. And if your thinking its a compatible frequency situation, why did it dto the same thing with three different wireless routers??? Even when I set it up right next to the computer. The camera has three channels, so I switched to #2. Everything worked great for a few hours, then it was the same problem. Turned off the camera and everythings fine again! It just doesn't make sence that the camera started to interfere months after it was put in use...
