    Hello all,

My quesion involves a really strange problem with internet explorer. It seems that whenever I open up a new internet explorer window (outside of ctrl+N and clicking on the internet explorer icon) the page opens but refuses to load. The page doesn't show any error messages, it just stays blank. It displays the hourglass cursor whenever I go up into the top or bottom margins, but that's about all it does. The page will load, however, if I hit "stop" and "refresh" (or esc and F5 in a window with no toolbar), but that is getting really annoying. This doesn't seem to be a very common problem with internet explorer, due to the lack of information regarding it. I have two popup blockers: the internet explorer popup blocker and the google toolbar popup blocker. Both of them are turned off, but I still have the problem.

My operating system is Windows XP with service pack 2 loaded. I have version 6.0 of internet explorer.

Any information that you could give me regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

It sounds like one of your system files has become corrupted at some point. You can try the 'system file checker' to restore it. You may need your WinXP CD to restore files if they are found bad, or have the files located somewhere on the HDD (Wincabs, for example). Go to the 'run' prompt & type:

    sfc /scannow

If that doesn't seem to help, open the command prompt window and do a checkdisk. Type the following:

    chkdsk /f

If it doesn't allow you to run the chkdsk (volume in use by another process), it'll let you choose to have it performed upon bootup.

    Good luck,

I did what you said, but nothing really happened. Internet Explorer still does it.

Well, your options now become a little more complex. Have you tried scanning your system with a good Anti-virus & malware scanner? There could be a nasty little bug giving you the problems. I recommend reading the MG primer for spyware, trojan, and virus removal here:

If the scans pick up nothing, you could try a system restore, assuming you have it enabled. You could also try reinstalling Internet Explorer. You can go here for more details on that:

I would just say, "DOWN WITH IE AND GET MOZILLA FIREFOX," that usally fixes the problem.....

It's only blank if I click on a link that opens up another window. If it doesn't open up a new window, it loads normally

Hell yeah, it worked. There are no more problems now. Thank you all for all of your help! The windows open up fine now.

    Thanks Steve.
