My older pc which is a server specs

    AMD Sempron 3000+ Socket A
    ASUS A7V8X-LA
    1 GB DDR ram
    120 GB IDE Hard Drive
    CentOS 5 Linux

When ever I upload a file to it it makes a hum noise. It's not the hard drive as I created a 100 MB empty file and no hum noise. Seems that it hums when I have network activity to the server. Any ideas?

Is it like a fan "hum" and thus slight increase in fan rpm's in response to activity. You could test it by having Everest open and see if fan rpm's are increasing with activity.

I don't think it is. It's more like a hum and not a fan hum. It seems like it's coming from the motherboard.
