Strange Mouse Behavior - do I need a replacement?

    Hi all,

I have a Lenovo desktop H320 computer with a Intel Core i3 540 CPU. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. My mouse is a Logitech LX7 cordless optical mouse.

I bought the Lenovo computer last December. Prior to that, I've used this mouse without any problem until now.

Here are a few of the things it does:

When left-clicking on a hyperlink in Firefox 3.6.16, instead of one tab opening, two open.

On multiple occasions when left-clicking once on an image file to select it, Irfanview (my default image viewer) opens it. This makes it very difficult to delete files.

Frequently I'll view an image in Irfanview in a maxmized window. The window behind the Irfanview window is my Windows Explorer window, opened to the folder that contains the image file. When I click X to close the image file, my Windows Explorer also closes, which forces me to have to continually navigate back to the folder I want to see.

When I go back to edit a message on the following forum [http://rpol.net] for the purpose of copying my old text to reuse it, clicking and dragging to highlight text, the mouse won't scroll down past the bottom of the message window. I've found that if I hold down the left clicker and use the scroll button on my mouse, I can move from the top of the text block to the bottom. Otherwise I can only copy the message as several chunks to be rejoined.

I don't know the shortcut for creating a new folder in Windows 7, but sometimes when I open a folder and click on a file (at least that's what it feels like I'm doing), a new folder is created.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Any guess as to what I might try to alleviate some of these problems? I'm a bit of a newb.

Thanks in advance for your time,

    Jeff G

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, Meanfire.

First thing that comes to mind is double-click speed. Check Start > Control Panel > Mouse > Buttons, adjust the Double-click speed settings, see if your symptoms change.

BTW: to make a new folder with Win 7, simply press Ctrl+Shift+N with an Explorer window open.

I'm not having any problems with a replacement mouse. Changing my mouse clicker speed didn't help.

So you replaced the mouse and all is working correctly now?
