Strange Virus shut down CPU

    I haave and older computer running windows xp for a while it worked great but one day after reading my email the screen truned blue and a large error box popped up on screen. after about a minute it had not gone away so I hit control alt delete but nothing happened. About a minute after that the computer just shut down. Now when ever I try to turn it on the computer monitor just turns blue and the computer shuts down:cry
    I have only a rudimentary knowledge of computers please help!

    I have moved your thread to the software forum. You need to be able to boot up and have a working system before we can assist you with any malware issues.

    Blue screens are usually accompanied by white printing with information. Without knowing what you see, it is almost impossible to try and help you.

    You also said you run XP. More information would be helpful: Home or Pro, any service packs, desktop or notebook, brand and model of computer, do you have a MS windows CD or any sort of repair/recovery CDs?
