Strange WinXP issues

Windows XP Home SP3 - this PC has numerous issues: the Event Viewer is LOADED with DCOM errors in the System list, but if I right click on any of the items listed, and select 'Properties', nothing happens, no menu, no error, nothing. The on-board ethernet is listed in the Device Manager, but if I go to Control Panel > Network Connections, nothing is listed here and I get an error about the Network Connection service not being started. So I then go run services.msc and I have to use the 'Standard' view because the 'Extended' view is royally $#@&ed up! Screen shot below. So I use the 'Standard' view (which I prefer anyway) and sure enough, just about everything with the word "network" in the name of the service is stopped and set to "Manual", but when I right click, and select "Properties", nothing happens. No error. Nothing. If I try to select "Start", I get an error about the dependency not being started and therefore it fails. So - WTF?!?!?! Any ideas will be GREATLY appreciated! There is a bit of a time crunch, so sooner is better. Thanks!!!

 

I was able to fix about 75% of the problems with a repair install of Windows. This fixed the issue with permissions and some general problems, and some of the networking problems, uninstalling McAfee also fixed many of the networking issues that weren't repaired by the repair install. The PCs owner NEEDED this system for his business network. He was dead without it. It's not perfect, but at least he's got his network back. I recommended that he back up any important data, locate his install discs for Office, QuickBooks, etc, and perform a full clean install to get everything back to 100%.... we'll see what happens! LOL
