    Hi all,

Not sure if this is where I should post but here goes.

After doing a clean install of win2k on a friends pc I was having problems trying to get the dvd rw recognized by windows which led me to here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316529

However after navigating to the registry key it suggests, I found that there was no such reg key???? What can I do to change this? As I am sure that this is my problem as i have updated all firmware??

    Thanks

ahhaha I'm a bonehead. Just realised that because I did a clean install I will most likely need to reinstall software again!!!!! Unfortunatly it is halfway across the city guess it will just have to wait.

It's no consolation but the Microsoft KB article refers to Windows XP.

Windows XP has rudimentary inbuilt CD/DVD writing software.
I'm sorry but Windows 2000 does not.

What do you mean by does not recognise?
Does windows see the drive at all?
You need to install addition software for writing CD/DVD.
Two programs are needed, on for non rewritable and one for rewritable.
These should have come with the drive or computer.

    Commercial programs are available
Nero, Easy DVD Creator, B's Recorder for non rewritables
InCD, DirectCD, B's clip for rewritables

you can also download programs from Major Geeks to do the job

Hope this helps, post again if you need more assistance.

    Hi Studio T,

Ok not so good with Win2k LOL.

By not recognized, I mean it is showing up as a cd-rom not dvd-ram in My computer, when looking at properties it doesn't give a recording option. It does however read cds fine. It just won't burn or even recognize a blank cd. I am just downloading Final burner will let you know what happens. Oh and by the way this is a:

    LG Super Multi DVD\RW

    Model # GSA-4163B

As for the programs coming with the computer or Drive it was a basic clean install, as she lost everything due to viruses. She does have the software for the DVD but it is not here.

    Thanks

Sound like you need to install the specific driver for the DVD/RW drive. Mine came with a CD, how bout your friends,,,,if not do a search for the driver you need for your DVD/RW drive.

Pity you didn't mention the RAM bit before. I find my Lg super multi to be an excellent beast. It does not however seem to like any of the standard writer programs, like Nero so perhaps this is the problem.
Mine came with the B's suite from BHA

    http://www.bhacorp.com/download/clip_w/index.html

Remember you need to uninstsall other writer programs before loading the B's.

This is a general rule as writer programs are traditionally incompatible. I do have however LG and a Panasonic DVD drives coexiting happily in a Win2k machine, each using their own software.

By the way how does one pronounce 'mneenee' ?

    Happy geeking

    Warning

This site uses push technology (Unlike Major Geeks) and generates popups. I am running a spyware scan and will report if it has managed to place anything on my computer. It did try to scan my pc for cd drives without invitation.

This is a pity because the site content is quite interesting.

yes I was referring to the CD info site.

Just finished the scan - I use XOFTSPY -nothing found. (as usual).

However the popups do occur on this site.

No offence meant to your goodself by the way.

I figured that was the problem. I already did the fimware update but there are no drivers to be found so I am waiting for her to drop the disks off. Hopefully today.

    Studio T

I had Media monkey on here at first and it still wouldn't work. So I am sure I need the original disks unless you have an idea of where to get the specific drives for this? I have had no luck. I can wait I guess just running out of patience LOL. Also what about real player is that not a good burning program?? I have used it on my xp and it runs fine?

Thanks all for your advice I really appreciate it.

And mneenee is pronounced M Neenee (neenee is my nephews nickname for me) Cute eh heheh

Yes you need the LG disk to install the UDF software for the DVDRAM capability, but the other functions should work with many programs.
My LG disk has the following folders

Acrobat, B's clip, B's gold, DX9, MLlauncher, pDVD, pp, RAMdriver.

    Cheers
