stranger than fiction with pse and lr

i changed my vga cable to an hdmi cable and it seems that my backups for photoshop elements are gone and my .jpg extensions have disappeared so now i can't access my files. in lightroom 5 my folders (99%) have gone into the ethernet and i have'nt checked yet if my backups are gone.
ran the malware procedures and nothing showed up (one or more files were quarantined by RK) but Chaslang says no malware visible.
i did download a torrent but my scans with Eset Nod don't show anything wrong.
can any one help? if so great and i thank you.

 

File extensions are not just disappearing unless the files are renamed.

If you look at your JPEG files with Windows Explorer, what does it say under 'Type'?

 

yup they say jpg.
so, how do i get them back into elements 12? thanks for your help ..i took a long time replying 'cause i spent some time doing taxes for my wife and myself.

 

When you double-click on any of these files, what program do they open in?

If you want them to open with PSE, but they open in another program, change the file association for .jpg and .jpeg files. see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-file-open-program#1TC=windows-7

they open in pse organizer but I can't save them individually. the application says already in collection.
I have multiple folders of images under pictures folder. they're organized by years.
is there something else I should do?
