Strong signal, but one comp can't connect

Hi,

I got home from a trip today, turned on my comp (Lenovo z61p, running Windows XP), and for about fifteen minutes it was getting the internet...then it wasn't. I did all the usual fixes for internet problems, but none of them were working and my other computers have been connecting fine. The comp with the problem is showing a strong signal that it's continually trying to connect to, but just can't connect.

I've been running various anti-virus/malware/etc. scans all night and have, I think, updated the drivers (I've been downloading everything onto a USB and moving it back to the laptop), but I still can't get online.

Do you guys have any other suggestions on what to try or any ideas on what could be causing this? If it persists, I think I'm going to drag it to Geek Squad, but would very much like to be able to avoid that.

 

Sorry, dont know all the answers on this the internet has so many differnet area's that it can fall over on without the added things like malware thrown-in. Not to mention wireless can be prone to magnetic fields or wiring or in the walls. So if theres a switch box or simialr for the house or something on the other side of the wall try moving away from it.

My take is try the system restore for a quick fix. Restore to a date before the issue occured. Unsure how to restore..? look online for your version of operating system XP vista and then google it.
