Struggling to get a ps2 Eye toy to work on PC

I am trying to get my old ps2 eye toy to work on my pc as it is a decent little webcam. I'm aware it is not normally compatible but these are steps I've followed before.

I have downloaded appropriate drivers, many different ones and followed the instructions correctly.

I used a program called manycam to work as a third man to stream the webcam to other services such as skype.

this 'used' to work, i have successfully used it a fair bit in the past, however it was very sketchy and only worked about 50% of the time after a lot of attempts per use.

However it is now not working at all. The error on manycam is about checking the webcam isn't being used in another program, which it isn't. I really want to use this instead of buying one, anyone have ideas?

The eye toy is Namtai, and i've tried both 3.x and 4.x versions of manycam. I run windows 7 HP.
