stuck at blue and white hp screen after reformat attempt?Help

Hello everyone,

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.In an attempt to
to reformat my OS(which has always went smooth before)which is windows xp
sp2 i went into the BIOS and changed my cd drive to the first boot device
which went fine then i restarted the computer with the windows xp disc in
in the cd drive and got the blue hp screen and on the bottom it said enter menu
and thanks to a storm at the time the power went out and when it came back on i
again started the computer and only got the blue and white hp screen and no mention
of enter menu or begin install so i left the computer on for about an hour and a half
hoping it would just work itself past the blue and white hp screen but no luck and it
seems to be locked on the blue and white hp screen and i am not able to get passed this
screen.

I haved tried the ESC and F1 keys and other buttons with no response plus no action
on the computer light which will flash when the computer is working on anything.What
should i do next or how can i get passed the blue and white screen to either try and
reinstall OS or get back into BIOS or....?

Power failures could have damaged any number of componets in your computer. First can you tell if your hard drive is still getting power? is your cd spinning. can you get into bios to check the boot priority to make sure the cd is still the first or f8 or f12 (i forget) to manually choose boot device. there is a good chance that the power failure could have blown the hd, motherboard or other device.

The cd still spins and the light on the cd drive lights up when i load the xp cd.Also i get no response when tapping the F8 or F12 keys or esc etc. and when starting the computer the light flashes like the HD is running at least in the beginning but then nothing because i cant get passed the blue screen.

I get the same thing on mine from time to time. Try Ctrl-Alt-Del, but first enter the Bios Setup. Mine is an old xt923 Pavilion.

Appreciate the reply. I tried ctrl+alt+del but cannot get into bios either before or after ctrl+alt+del because blue screen.

Also wondering if this would be plausible idea? If i used some type of bios restore program loaded from a cd,not sure about one that would automatically run when cd is installed,but could it restore my bios to where i could get into them bypassing the blue and white hp screen and then reset the cd drive as the primary boot drive to then install os cd?

I have been searching the web for a cure for my blue and white screen ill`s for hours now so maybe my mind is fried for the day and this is just sounds possible.

are you getting any beeps from the system when u first boot it up

Do mean beeps by sound or just a number of beeping light flashes?

sound, when you turn on your computer you should hear at least 1 beep, multiple beeps and the Sequence is a trouble shooting tool.
