Stuck in Memtest

I replaced the CMOS battery in my ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard.

I cleared the RTC RAM.

My audio POST says, "...now booting from operating system." but it goes into Memtest-86 and I can't get any further.

Silly question. Um, do you have a memtest86 CD or floppy in the drive and its booting to that?

 

Nothing in floppy or CD drives. I did put my recovery CD in the drive to see if I could get it to go to the OS but that was only after I couldn't get around the problem manually. Took the CD out and problem remains.

If you check in the BIOS, see if you can find the boot order/boot priority list. Set the HDD to first and see if that helps. Also you can look in the BIOS and ensure that any quick-boot options are enabled.

I previously tried switching the HDD and CD boot sequence but had left the floppy as the first boot device. Following your advice I made HDD 0 the primary and HDD 1 (I have two hard drives) the secondary. I can now get to the OS (don't know which of those two changes was the solution but assume it was changing HDD 0 to the primary as you recommended.

Well it was likely finding a bootable device before the HDD with Windows on it. If the floppy was first it was likely trying to boot to that. I dunno where it was finding memtest though if there wasn't any disk in the drive.
