    Merry Christmas all!

I am trying (for my first time ever) to "Reset" a Windows 10 Dell laptop, and after the machine working on that all day, it's giving a prompt to either clear the Trusted Platform Module - or not, and I am not sure what to do...my GUESS is that yes, I would want to do this, but I'm simply not 100% sure - which I need to be, please.

Thx in advance for any help offered!!

Can't give you an honest answer on that one. If it's like a nominal Windows format, that doesn't delete the MBR.

Security protocols may now require that you reset the TPM even with a refreshing of the operating system. It would seem logical.

Anyone else like to chime in?

    Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

TPM is a microchip that stores encryption keys and other security information on your computer. It can be used to enable BitLocker drive encryption, which protects your data from unauthorized access. Clearing TPM means resetting the security keys and deleting all the data stored on the TPM chip. This can be done when you want to perform a clean installation of Windows or when you encounter problems with the TPM.

If you clear TPM, you will lose all the keys and data associated with the TPM, such as the login PIN and other data secured by those keys. You will also need to re-enable BitLocker and set up a new PIN after clearing TPM. If you do not clear TPM, you may encounter errors or compatibility issues when reinstalling Windows or using BitLocker.

The choice of whether to clear TPM or not depends on your situation and preference. If you want to start fresh with a new system and do not need to keep any data or settings from the previous system, you can clear TPM. If you want to keep some data or settings from the previous system and do not mind troubleshooting potential issues with TPM or BitLocker, you can skip clearing TPM.
