    Help,
One day my computer was working fine then it went wacky.
After a reboot my system could no longer load the drivers for my CD drives,
I could not connect to the internet, I no longer had any communication program's. I could not access certain programs System Works for one. I no longer had any printer installed nor was I able to reinstall them. Had a message about print service not being available. After trying a few things a similar message about being in Safemode would pop up.
Tried to reinstall Windows XP Pro SP2. Was not able to. Now every time I try to boot up, no matter what mode. I wind up with a Windows XP Setup dialogue box saying Setup cannot run under Safemode. Setup will restart now.
I have tried everything using the F8 key. I have tried the recovery console, changed the MBR. Tried to quit the install by running it again. Nothing seems to work. I keep getting the pop up Windows trying to install.
Is there a file I can edit to stop the install process???
I have installed the operating system (Windows XP Pro SP2) on one of the other partitions and I can boot to that. Now when I use explore and go to the original partition I notice that I can not open my user information. I receive a message that access is denied. The folder also appears to be empty.
Before I start reloading all my programs and information. Is there a fix or do I bite the bullet and start to reload?
If I have to reinstall my programs is there a way to tell the new Operating system where all the programs are??

Thanks for any help you may share,
Happy Harry (not so happy right now)

    Follow these steps in SafeMode:

    1. Start
    2. Run
    3. Type "msconfig"
    4. Select "Selective Startup"
    5. Uncheck "Load Startup Items"

If any questions appear just click Yes or Restart whichever it may be.

Now let me know if you are able to boot normally.

    Thanks for the advice,
But I can not use it at this time. I am not able to get into Windows in any mode.My computer starts to boot up goes to the Windows XP screen then a blue screen appears stating that Windows will try to restart setup. After a moment a dialogue box opens telling me Windows can not run under Safemode.
I booted my machine using the other partition"E" that also has XP on it. I edited the msconfig file on the "C" partition the original operating system. Still didn't work. I booted again into safemode using from the "E" partition changed the msconfig to start in diagnostic startup. I stil get the blue screen that setup is restarting then the dialogue that I am in safemode.
What is telling the computer to install XP???
    Again thanks for any help,
    Harry

Well with what you just told me you need to put in your XP disk and boot from it and Repair your Windows Installation.

    1. Turn on Computer
    2. Put in XP Disk (Make sure in your bios settings CD-Rom drive is set to be booted from before Hardrive)
    3. "Boot from cd." will be displayed press any key
    4. Then it will startup a loading process and let that go
    5. You will have 3 optioins enter for continue, r for Recovery Console, F3 for exit
    6. Choose Enter for Continue
    7. Then Accept the Agreement using F8
    8. You should now see your XP Installation and should be able to press R to start the Repair process, this will start a reinstall of Windows and do all the same steps as a Full Install of Windows for your first time.

    Hope this works for ya!
