Stuck on Post

I recently bought an external harddrive for my computer, but I have to unplug it because every time I boot the computer up it gets stuck on during the post. It says something similar to this.

At this point it sits and is nonreactive even when I push del or one of the other keys that does something during the post.

I figure that this is probably a Bios problem, but I wanted a little confirmation that this is probably the correct diagnosis.

Go into your BIOS setup and check the boot order: It should be set for the boot HDD first, CD/DVD second and USB device(s) last. If the USB device(s) are set at a higher boot priority than the hard drive, the system is hanging while trying to find a bootable item on the external drive.

If this fails, some systems have a BIOS option to disable USB boot.

In a worst possible case, there are a few systems I've seen where the only way to solve the problem is disconnecting all USB drives prior to booting or rebooting.

Nah i had it only to boot from my hdd. It was a bios problem, and after i flashed the bios it worked fine. Gotta love asus for always having that sort of thing on tap for download at any time. Also using the update utility to do it with windows is awesome. I always hated having to run up dos utility to flash the bios...

 

Did you just reflash to same ver. or upgrade it? There may have been an update in one of the VERS. for mass storage, IDK.

 

Often it is BIOS, disable usb legacy support when using connected external storage via USB when there is not a boot order or disable usb option.
