I just downloaded a program of here (MG) called Dans Dead Pixel Fixer. It claims to unstick stuck pixels and dead pixels on your monitor. I have a stuck pixel, its an annoying little green dot! I was just wondering does anyone know if this software works? It flashes r-g-b-r-g-b...etc in a window over the pixel for hours! It just seems a bit mad to me!

Well back from the days of learning how monitors work in my science class, the monitor is composed of billions of small phosphorous pixels and in the back of the monitor is a light ray gun (im serious) and the gun shoots rays at the billions of phosphorous cells. These cells have three different colors red green and blue. Depending on which one the light gun hits, that is the color that is produced. The light gun is programmed to move extremely fast (its movements are frame rates essentially) and it keeps scanning over the cells changing the colors again and again. Occasionally, in the case of your green dot, one of those cells gets "stuck" and the light gun will only light the green one...I don't know why this occurs, but its my assumption that the program is flashing r-g-b to try and unstick the dot. Monitors can only produce colors in the rgb spectrum unlike prints which can produce cmyk colors...so I guess its trying to get the dot to return to producing colors by forcing the light gun to display its primary colors surrounding the dot...It seems logical, maybe you just need to give it time...but you are right, at first glance it seems rather mad indeed...

My monitor is actually an LCD on my laptop. It had a stuck pixel when it was new, I would have taken it back to the shop but it was a present and didnt want to sound ungreatful by pointing out the problem!!

hmmm now thats interesting because i am on an lcd screen as well and when i had a stuck pixel it just eventually went away, but if it came like that from the factory, I'd call your laptop company and see what they say and maybe do a few google searches, see if anyone else had the same problem.... An lcd doesnt work the same way a full monitor does I would assume...hopefully there is someone out there who knows more about this, try the hardware forums, post your situation there and explain how you were using a software to fix the problem...they should be able to help more I would bet...
