Stumped on VAIO

My daughter has a VAIO. It comes equiped with Windows XP SP2, Intel pro internal wifi card. She uses a LINKSYS wrt54G router. Her roommate is connected hardwire and has no issues. She's been using the set up for a year. She normally had four area networks on the "View wireless networks" screen. Yesterday when she called, she had no wifi networks at all and her roommate still had a hardwire connection.

Here are the steps we took to figure out what happened.

1. Turned off all security (Windows Fire wall).
2. Unplugged the router and rebooted teh computer. Plugged in teh router and powered up the computer.
3. Checked all setting on her compter drivers to insure they were unchanged.
4. Uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.
5. Checked and rechecked the WWan/Wlan switch to ensure it's on.
6. Checked property and saw that the driver was set to off, but the switch would not turn it on.

Turned off the computer for the day. Tonight, she said she could see some of the networks intermittently, then it turns off again. She reset the router and still nothing. At one point, she could see the router but it wouldn't log in.

I've been searching the internet for quite a while looking for a solution. Any help is appreciated.

It may be that your daughter may of not been connected to the router, and who ever owns it, locked your daughter out by either changing the password, or filtering her MAC for her NIC from being able to connect. Also it could be that her "Friend" placed the same restrictions on the Router, or turned off the WiFi Radio, or even removed the antennas from the unit.
