    Hi,
    I'm working on a Toshiba Satellite L500D (PSLK0A-00U009).
It's got ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics, which I have confirmed up to date driver.
It had Vista 32bit but I did a clean install of Windows Home Premium, 32bit. I did miss deleting the recovery partition but I'm not sure if that's got anything to do with the problems.

First issue is a red screen with vertical lines at startup and shut down 20160712_053543.jpg 20160712_053600.jpg 20160712_053659.jpg . There is also a red curve across the right hand side of the desktop when Windows has loaded. I've hopefully attached the photos correctly for you to see.
I've checked RAM. I've made sure graphics card driver is up to date. I've plugged the laptop into another monitor which works perfectly. At this point I'm assuming it is the screen itself. Either broken internally or a loose connection.
I'm not particularly good with interpreting results from Speedfan but the following I have observed:
Fan 1:0 RPM has a blue down arrow
    Fan 2:0 RPM HD0: 46c
Fan 3:0 RPM Core: Goes between 62c up to 98c (Which I believe should be between 45-50c)
I can hear the fan running.

I've also monitored the CPU Usage. With Internet Explorer open (Haven't installed Chrome yet), it goes up to 100%. But ranges between 55-70%.

The second issue is the RSOD with the error "Bad_Pool_Caller". Obviously the system needs to restart.
I have researched this error and a few have suggested updating wifi drivers?? Did that just in case.

I'm unsure if the RSOD should really be a BSOD but is red because of the first issue I mentioned. However, I did read somewhere that RSOD were common with Vista Operating Systems. Perhaps this is a problem in my case because I didn't delete the Recovery Partition.

Windows Updates are installing okay with the help of using the WSUS Offline Installer.

My question is if the RSOD Bad_Pool_Caller error and the screen colour could be related?
I have been into screen resolution and all seems okay there.
I'd like some advice before I disassemble the laptop to check the display connections. Especially if it has nothing to do with the RSOD error.

Thanks for reading. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This sounds like dust/debris has built up inside the laptop and it needs a good air dusting. Since graphics seems to have started to fail, if it is a dedicated graphics card, it will need replacing. If it's integrated graphics (like my Radeon R5 is), you're looking at replacing the system board.

Thank you. It's odd that when you click on a start menu program or something similar a faint red line encases the icon you're clicking on. If that makes sense ;) Touch wood I haven't had the RSOD/BSOD in 24 hours.
Looks like it will be a disassemble job. I hate what I find inside some people's laptops ;)

Just double checked. It's shared not dedicated graphic card.

As long as you don't find any critters. ;)

Between working on people's laptops and desktops, I've found everything from dead bits of skin to tiny bits of marijuana! Soooo gross
