Stupid MS 'star' thingy how do I get rid of it?

Hi Guys...I use XP with auto updates 'on' about a week ago I get this message 'Your copy of Office is not genuine' well maybe it's not I don't know but there is this '5 sided star' icon in the bottom right and that message comes up whenever i open a new Word doc, any idea how to get rid of it???...thanx in advance...dizzy

 

Do you own a genuine (legally purchased and licensed) copy of Office. If not, buy it or try Open Office. If so, try this:
Office 2003/XP
Office 2007

 

Thanx 'just playin' this copy of Office came with the machine so I assumed it was kosher and as I use it so infrequently it really would not be worth my while shelling out $$$'s to MS to fix it, I just need a fix to get rid of the silly message that comes up every time I open a new Word doc, any ideas?? btw the 2 links you supplied are not really relevant, thanx anyway...kind regards dizzy

 

Not every copy that comes with the machine is legal, unfortunately. Various unscrupulous merchants will load pirate software on systems they sell.

You have two choices:
1) If you have reason to believe you bought MS Office (it was an itemized item you paid for on your invoice) then you should have received disks or a box with a hologram and serial number for the software. If you didn't go back to the people you purchased it from and get them to rectify the situation, or read and follow the instructions provided by JustPlayin.

2) If the MSOffice was just thrown on your box "for free" it's probably a pirate copy. Remove Microsoft Office and get yourself a copy of OpenOffice (from http://majorgeeks.com/OpenOffice.org_For_Windows_d3461.html or www.openoffice.org). OpenOffice is free and has more functionality than MSOffice anyway.

 

Uninstall it or buy it, otherwise I've got nothing else to add.
