I have a guy who for some stupid reason has to use MSN for his mail account (hotmail). When he goes in, there are messages that he cannot delete, you put them in the trash empty the trash and they come right back after you switch back to the in box. He claims that his PC at home doesn’t have this problem, but hotmail is not resident on a pc. I am totally clueless when it comes to all these stupid service providers’ proprietary clients. I looked in settings and other misc folders but no help. How can I permentedly delete these emails....J

    10 to 1 says it's cached.

under inernet options, general settings tab. click on temporary internet file "SETTINGS" button.
Select the first option. "Check for newer versions of stored pages" -->"Every visit to page"

    try it again.

Well I tried both of your guy's suggestion and no dice. I thougt to it was somehow caching it to but no good. What happens basicaly is you select the messages you want to delete then put them in the trash-fine. After you empty the trash they all just go back to the in box folder. It only happens with particular emails. It's actually only one address that it happens from. When you put any other mail in the trash and emty it it deletes it fine. I stuck it's about twenty of these emails that I can't delete. Thanx---j

it's not an MSN notice it's just some random email over and over again. same address and when you open it it says unable to open.

I have hotmail and yahoo, love em both for different reasons. Select the offending email without opening it. move it to inbox, select it and then click block sender. A dialog will come up and ask to block sender xxx@xxx.com or block all from domain @xxx.com.
Just see what the domain is and if it is from any major provider click the back button instead of the ok. You should be at the inbox again. Now forward the email to abuse@xxx.com. (xxx being the major provider domain name.) and cc one to abuse@hotmail.com. They like to know sometimes of new buggers. Now go back and block that sucker from the inbox.

I'm real curious about this as I have never heard of anything like this with hotmail. Also I never use the address book on any email program. I just make a folder and keep my emails there. You may have to clear out the address book.

mag sounds good but he needs to still recieve messages from that mail address. The account has recieved mail after the fact from the same address and they delete fine it's just a series of emails that where mass mailed all with the same date and time that won't delete.

Well I guess I just don't quite see the whole enchilada.

What is the operating system of your machine

What is the operating system of his machine?

If the offending email is deleted on his machine does it still show on yours?

If you feel trusting just post the user name and password, maybe someone here would be willing to give it a try http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0903/teufel/devil-smiley-019.gif

At my level of computer savey I'm not willing to open potentially hazardous emails.

Anyway , after you block sender and delete, you can still go back and unblock sender.

Or as the above link suggest, just leave it in the trash until the schedualed delete.

Sorry to bring up an old post however I ended up finding out the problem. When the P-store becomes corrupted within the MSN software installed on a PC, it can behave incorrectly. The CTRL+SHIFT+F9 memory flush clears it, and then restores the P-store from the most recent back up on the MSN (P-store being a synch file that refreshes itself everytime you log on an MSN server. This flush does not delete information stored on the MSN server. So I guess this file decided to become corrupt hence creating a total nightmare. Moral of the story USE EUDORA OR A NORMAL EMAIL CLIENT.
