Alternatively, when the new computer arrives, you can connect it to your network. With the old computer still connected to your network too, you can open up sharing and then transfer files back and forth over your network. It is not hard but it takes a bit to setup . But once setup, you can then use the computers as backups to each other.

USB is too slow and laggy, as Digerati says connect them over your network using homegroup settings. Use the password to connect the new device!

This should be in software forum!

MS is dropping Homegroups from Windows 10 so perhaps that method will work with some builds but not others.

The original question was not software, it was about using some sort of hardware to connect 2 computers together. As a matter of fact, decades ago, I had a bit of hardware (purple device and a purple cable) that I used to connect two computers together parallel port to parallel port. It was very slow but this was before plug and play so it was a way to get files from one computer to another without using lots of floppy disks.

Eventually I will think of the name of the device.

Null Modem or Laplink? Used it a lot to transfer files on Dos and Win95/98 systems.

No, it wasn't either of those. I went downstairs where I store extra cables hoping to find the purple one. I get rid of the triangle shaped purple device that went along with it. Perhaps in my notes, I'll find its name.
