Just bought a 250gb hard drive, 256mb RAM, DVD RW, CDRW and USB PCI host card. Never really installed hardware before.

I want to know whether it matter which component I install first. I already have one 256mb stick of RAM.

Also at the moment I have a 40gb hard drive, I need detailed instructions on how transfer everything off that hard drive to the new hard drive. PLZZZZZZZZZ!!!!

    Thanks in advance.

Most new hard drives come with a cd. Put that in and boot - sometimes it has a how to install demo.. check that out.
And I'd put the RAM in last.. sometimes bad / mismatched RAM can cause weird errors..
    Install, boot, test, repeat..
