I would love to see those signs over here.
My wife and i are both disabled and have cards in the auto to say that but the number of times we see able bodied people parking in these bays is unbelievable.

Yea, I get angry when I see that.
Often it's younger people who are quite fit.

About 3½ years ago, I had an accident at home and had a classic "broken hip"
which is actually a broken femur, not a broken pelvis.
For about six to eight weeks, I couldn't drive, walking with a crutch was kind of an ordeal,
and in general just wasn't able to do certain normal activities.
I developed a new appreciation for normal mobility and being able to walk freely.

It takes six months to a year to fully recover from that type of injury.
So now when I'm walking around the mall, I sometimes remember what it was like during those first 4 months.

I would never park in one unless actually disabled. Seems like you are kinda asking for some bad luck. ;)

I am still getting strength in my legs and have a doctor certified disability parking certificate. It really irks me (pi**es me off) when some lazy bast*rd parks in a disability marked spot.

Just sheer laziness, or selfishness, usually.
One of the excuses "Oh, I am just going to be a few minutes"

Actually, I believe stupidity is a disability, however, if it were to be recognized as such, 95% of the parking lots would be for "Handicapped Users". :-D

An interesting point,is it ok to make fun of/get annoyed at stupid people or is it a disability? I get annoyed at stupidity all the time but if say someone ran slower than average that wouldn't bother me in the slightest,I'd probably feel sorry for them.No normal person would poke fun at someone with learning difficulties which is a disability,so when does stupidy become a learning difficulty?

We all do stupid things is it just an act of stupidity that's Ok to ridicule? I don't know the answers I'm too stupid...

On the picture I call CHOPPPP!:-D But funny.

Someone gave my stepfather hell for parking in a handi-capped spot about 25 years ago. He was around late 30's, as walked from the spot.

Its one of the proudest moments I have of him. He opened his shirt to the person, revealling his heart surgery scar up & down his chest. He was a very humble and kind man, I'm glad he stood up for himself. He died too young.

Things are not always as they seem. I have displayed a GREAT deal of idiocy in my life, and I'm sure there's more to come. I am grateful however to be increasing of my patience for other folks, and a little slower to spout off without more careful consideration first.

I appreciate the wonderful conversation here, as usual. I admire the patience, I can read between the lines, exhibited by folks here helping floundering people who don't see their own lack of respect.

    Cheers to the Geeks!

Now that my legs are starting to work semi-good again, I feel quilty about using a handicapped space. I have bitched about others that seem to be totally un-handicapped before, so I guess my conscious is starting to kick me in the butt!! :(

    I hate feeling 'quilty'. :-D:-D

You 'gots' to admit that is a funny typo. ;) Glad to see you are feeling a bit better.

I have been in and out of the hospital 8x since late August. When we go anywhere, my wife will drop me off at the door and go find a parking space.
We were told that we could get a handicapped placard, but since hopefully, my situation is temporary and my wife does all of the driving (for now), we would rather leave those spots for someone who really needs them.

I have received a few dirty looks for using the motorized carts when we go to the store (probably due to my young appearance) ;), so I will nonchalantly remove my hat to scratch my head and that usually fixes that.

I'm reminded of the scene in Me, Myself and Irene, when Hank sees the young guy parking in the handicapped space and takes matters into his own hands. Classic!!

    A little off track.
What really gets me steamed is the people that do take up 4 spaces by parking directly over the spot where the painted lines cross. :mad
Afraid that somebody is going to scratch their car?:confused
Usually already dented and banged up. rolleyes:-D

That's not really off track - it's still inconsiderate.

If you don't want the car banged up, and you are able as they are,
then you should park far enough away so that no one is likely to park right next to you.

I do that regularly and just consider it a chance for a little more exercise.
It's good for me, it's good for the car and I don't intrude on any one else.

But then the people that do what is described here don't think of that. :(

BTW, when I decided to post that little article and had to choose a title,
I knew that "stupidity" was not the best choice but since that is what is
on the sign and also the title on that page, I decided just to use that.

I thought that one word would draw some comments, as it did.
The comments reflect humor as well as insight and compassion, which is common here at MG.

Apparently the owner or manager of the garage had the sign made and I suppose that
language skills and linguistics is not a primary concern, so he/she used what first came to mind.

Since it's purpose was to act sort of like a scarecrow, a sign that says
"Hey Stupid, This Isn't For You", does the job quite nicely, I think.

So what word would you use instead of "Stupid" ?? :confused

"Indecency" perhaps, but that doesn't have Nearly the same scarecrow effect,
and most of those for whom it is actually intended probably wouldn't be bothered
    by being called Indecent.

They'd probably just drive right in. rolleyesLOL

    How about:

    "If not handicapped when parking,
    you will be upon leaving."
