SU0013 error

I have been trying to resurrect an old laptop. I can get to the point where I can begin the Windows 98 installation it gives me the SU0013 error. What do I need to do?

I went to micosoft bulletin board but I am not quite sure how to get the computer into MS DOS to install Windows 98.

I use the 98 startup disk and have used FDISK already. When do I use the FAT32 disk? I even created a FAT32 disk. How does this disk help?

The Microsoft information assumes that I can click on the start button...However, I am reinstalling the OS. So I can't get to a start button.

I know what MS DOS is, I meant to ask how do I use MS DOS to install 98? All I know is "setup" and that's when i get the SU0013 error.

 

Basically you need to FDISK your internal HD.

You need a bootable Win98 or Win95 floppy to do this that has FDISK on it. I am not sure if you can do this from files on the CD.

Any partitions that you created with FDISK will be unformatted. The operating system that loads from your Startup Diskette will not be able to write to those partitions. FORMAT is on your Startup Diskette too. You'll need to run that on any partitions you've created that you intend to use with Windows.

When you've done that, re-start your system with the Startup Diskette, and make sure that you enable CD-ROM support when you do that. Then you can log to the drive that contains the CD-ROM, and run SETUP. Windows should take it from there if you've done everything right.
