Subwoofer

Why is my subwoofer rattling? I just got a new woofer so it's not that. Could the amp be screwed up? It's a powered sub for my home surround. Thanks for looking!!

 

Maybe the high energy, low frequency output is causing a sympathetic vibration of something else in your home. Being new, I guess I would have to rule out deterioration of the foam surround of the woofer cone.

 

Is it an exact replacement part for what what burned out, or just something that fit? A woofer will rattle if it's overdriven and hit's the magnet structure at high volume, and if it's a cheaper replacement, may not be capable of the same level as the old one. Or something may be loose in the cabinet and rattling, or the new driver may be damaged or defective.

 

I bought the woofer because I didn't want them to overcharge me if i sent it in for repairs. Could the board be sending bad signals or something?

 

It could have got b0rked in shipping. Happened to my step dads electrostat speakers with isolated bass drivers (electrostat speakers don't do bass too well). It was REALLY noticable cause the driver just buzzed like crazy on one side... but on the other was fine.

 

Not likely. Bad electronics shouldn't cause rattling. What was the failure on the original? Burned out voice coil? ripped cone? ??

Again, is this the same exact driver model as what blew, or not? And is the rattling only at high volume?

 

what kind is it.And how big is the room your trying to fill with BASS


Also are you useing a cross over and what is your cutoff and roll off

 

It's an infinity bu80...i ordered the woofer directly from infinity, but the connections are a little different. The positive is bigger than the negative, where the old woofer had the same size connnection. The magnet is also a lot bigger on the new one. Since the speaker is about 5 yrs old, they may have upgraded the replacement woofers.

 

Is it the same part number... thats the important part. They may have upgraded the part, and it should be backwards compatible... but if its a different part all together...

 

I put money on that sub is way to small for what your useing it for.It's only 75 watt sub with an 8 inch woofer.Try turning your cut off at 75HZ and see if this helps

 

The part number on the new woofer is IL200HWS...I'm guessin that 200 means watts, and that seems like it might cause a problem...I'll try takin it back to 75 mhz

 

I don't know about that, but now it's not making any sound. There are some loose resistors on the board, so I think that I'll just take it to the shop and be done with it unless anybody has a good idea. If not, thanks for all of the help!!

 

Its a ground feed back.Unplug the sub and install a 2 pin plug on the sub and plug it back in it should be gone.You need to start lifting grounds on your equipment.Untill it is gone

 

what all do you have pluged into the sub.Lift the ground on the computer and see if it goes away.Then put it back
