i had those problems before so the first thing i did was updated all my driver for all my hardware, there were some that really needed it! and disconnected all hardware that i didn't use - try it! :)

    Hi,

This can be caused by software or hardware that is not compatible with XP. Try removing any software or hardware that was installed just before the problem started, if you find what it is then you can look for updated drivers that are compatible.

thank for the the help but i have no idea which software i installed just before this started. it started a long time ago and at first didnt bother me since it only happens about once every 48hours. i dont think that it is my hardware because i didnt have any problems with this before and its not like this happens everytime i run a certain program. it even happens when i leave my pc on over night downloading something. Is there not some diagnostics tool that i can use to find the problem? i cant really reinstall windows cause i have so much stuff that i can not afford to lose.

    You may try this 1st:
What I also will do is run chkdsk /R from XP-CD,Recovery Console cmd prompt.
    >Then I would reboot & go Start-Run-msconfig, delete all startup items, then go to Services, hide all MS services, then disable the rest and reboot.
    >Then I will delete all the Prefetch files & reboot twice.
    >Then I will disable/enable System Restore.
    >The next thing I will disable use of pagefile, reboot and delete it from C-drive, and while logged in, enable the pagefile again[System Managed] & reboot.
    >Now I will defrag the HDD.
    >Reboot now with XP-CD to Recovery console cmd prompt & run chkdsk /R again....Still ok. ?
    >Reboot, go msconfig & chose normal startup, & reboot.
    >Now again disable/enable System Restore.
    >Clear eventviewer and check for clues.
