    hi
i booted my pc today , like normal it booted very fast , i mess around on the net for abit and download a few tweak utilities AND install service pack 1........anyways i restart and now it takes like 45 secs to boot

so i checked all the config files and stuff i know...all are normal so i decide to reinstall xp to get rid of the service pack , it still takes just as long to boot :(

anyone know how to fix this?

    thnx

hard to tell if it's the SP1 or the tweak utils.. tell us a bit more about the tweaks you did. I doubt the service pack is causing the issue but that's not out of the realm of possibilit either.

    ty :)
the tweak util i used was "Ace Utilities" , it was recommended on cnet so i thaught i should give it a shot.

i have disabled all services i dont need like usual and tweaked the msconfig menu, these usually bring my boot time down a hell of alot

can you elaborate on the tweaks you performed with this utility?

did you make a back up of your registry or possibly make a restore point? if so, have you tried restoring and testing the boot time?

no i dident see the need for a backup , i do this operation very regualary with another app....which's trial has ran out :p

i have system restore service disabled so thats not gonna be any good :/

shame on you.. "hmm were's the geek injection button when ya need it"..

i recommend making backups before performing things of this nature. Because of this, it may be harder to determine what the issue is.

have you updated any drivers recently?

i just noticed that before the load screen comes up , a long grey bar appears accross the bottom of the screen...

obviously, we have eliminated it to the tweaking you did, perhaps you can simply "uncheck" some of the options you selected, cleaning your registry will not make a load bar appear upon boot, and nor will SP1
