I have looked around and tried many of these suggestions all to no avail...here is what is wrong. Please forgive me if I missed something in the older threads.

Error message from AVG said I needed a new driver for firewall. Internet lost connectivity at the same time. No help from AVG other than online (download a program to fix registry settings, would not run on my PC, waiting on response from their tech support). Uninstalled AVG, turned off windows firewall. still, no internet. Switched from wifi to LAN, nothing. Ipconfig=media disconnected. ipconfig/renew says no media connected to renew (or something similar). Now getting error msg after running "diagnose" saying "driver hardware corrupt" and/or "ipv4 ipv6 bindings incorrect" updated marvel yukon (OEM) drivers, no luck. Installed new d-link ethernet adapter per CenturyLink support (they said "media discon." on ipconfig meant bad ethernet adapter). No luck with new dlink adapter. Same exact error message. Tried USB wifi, same exact error msgs. Went straight from DSL modem to computer, bypassing router, no luck, same probs.

Tried manually entering ip addresses, no luck. It will recognize that the ethernet cable is connected, but it will not obtain ip or dns addresses, even when I enter manually.

All other computers on network are working perfectly, the cable I am using is fine (other PCs work with it). What is the problem here? If I don't get it fixed soon, I will do a factory restore, but from other threads with similar probs, I don't think that will work either!

    Gateway PC
    Running Vista SP2 64 bit
Belkin Wireless G+ router with up to date firmware
Century Link 660 series modem (bridged)
MAC address filtering enabled, (but this shouldn't affect a hard wired set up should it?) Even so, all visible MACs have been entered for affected PC, BUT ipconfig will not list more than "media discon"

I am convinced this is a settings or software problem in windows, either that or a prob in mother board or bios. Feel free to suggest anything, no matter how simple, I may have overlooked something! I really don't want to have to back up and restore this system. (Its my parent's PC...I kinda suspect they changed something I can't find or AVG caused an error of sorts, but this is beyond my expertise)

    Hi Robman29037,

Try reinstalling AVG and then disable its link scanner feature. reboot.

  3. Media disconnected even if over lan cable?
Try lan cable then doing Ipconfig /release then Ipconfig /renew
    Possible winsocks problem?
