I am in the market for a new video card and was wondering what you guys would recomend. From the research I have done it looks like the best value would be ATI RADEON 9800PRO. It seems its an older card though.

Please let me know your suggestions.

    AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2700+ 2.2 GHz
    SAPPHIRE RADEON 9200SE ATLANTIS 128MB
    NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio Driver 6.14.348.0
    Dual channel 512 ram. (1gig)
    Raid HD's 160gigs total
    Windows Xp Pro SP2

I have just bought my second 9800 pro, it is a great card, get some good cooling and you can overclock it too. I got mine for £82 and only the £300 cards can beat it in games! I also have a 9200 and the difference is huge!
    I would go for it.

yea the 9800 is a good card, however your CPU might bottleneck it however slightly. But you will notice a massive improvement in game performance. Another one to consider is the 6600GT.

I was looking at the 6600GT and it seems the price is around the same($139) so its a consideration. Although it needs 400 watt or more power to run. Wonder if it outdoes the 9800 pro, or is it also around the same?

I actually have both cards. I broke an original 9800pro and bought the 6600GT as a replacement. In my newest pc I decided to go with the 9800 PRO again. I had no end of problems getting the 6600GT to work when I first got it, the drivers on release were rubbish and it took a few months before drivers came out that didn't make every game I played crash. The difference between the two is very marginal in my oppinion, I can't tell the difference, maybe you would playing Quake 4. I have a HIS 9800 pro which comes with Arctic cooling and has good overclocking potential. I wouldn't go with another Nvidia card, I much prefer ATI.
    Hope that helps.

I have had a GeForce 2, a GeForce FX 5700LE and a Radeon AIW 9800 Pro and while my Radeon card stomps my older ones I find that the nVidia drivers are much easier to install because EVERYTHING is in one neat little (ok so its not a small file) installer whereas the Radeon Drivers and other things are split into a bunch of different intstallers and everytime I have tried to install a new set of drivers things mess up.

well I think I will go with the Radeon 9800 pro in the end, found it on sale for $180 Can. locally. Actually its the ALL IN WONDER 9800 pro. From what I can see the ALL IN WONDER is the same preformance but has more features.

For about the same money you might consider an X800GT such as one of these...

unless your really in love with the TV functions of the A-I-W card.

Faster Core and quite a bit more memory bandwidth.

AFAIK, they don't make x800gts w/ an AGP interface, neither do they make 9200SEs in PCI-E so the x800gt won't be compatible with his computer.

Good point. Your right, my mistake. ATI seems to missing the boat on providing a really good new generation midrange AGP card. Must be losing a lot of sales to the 6600GT.
