Replacing my HP Laptop that has the Black Screen Of Death and too old to want to spend money for repairs. . This was a expencive laptop when new and I have already spent $200 on repairs for falty power supply a few years back. After reading HP might be discontinuing computers I have pretty much decided not to buy another HP
So looking for a laptop mostly for internet, music, ebooks, and watching DVDs when traveling. I don't know anything about Graphics. But I understand that I need a decent processor, I want a DVD±RW/CD-RW drive, HDMI output would be nice, lite weight a must. If Netbooks played DVDs I would probably just go with one.

Best Buy has a few laptops in this weeks ad.

    Dell 14" Model: I14RN4110, Intel Core i3, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HD, HDMI output, Intel HD Graphics 3000, $479.99

    Toshiba 15" Model: C655-S5225, Intel Pentium Processor, 4GB DDR3, 350 GB, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, $349.99

    Toshiba 15" Model: L755-S5217, Intel Core i3, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HD, Intel HD graphics, $449.00

Dell Model: IM5030-2857OBK, ADM Athlon II Duel Core, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 graphics, $329.99

Opinions? Suggestions? Better Laptops for the money?
    Thanks!

    I personally like Toshiba's.

I purchased a refurbished 17" screen Toshiba Satellite Pro P100 around 18 months ago, and really like it.

Some links that might help you:

I agree with Bazza about Toshiba; however if quick turnaround on warranty repairs (school or business use) is an issue I'd look strongly at Dell's Vostro series.

Vostro is Dell's business grade notebook series. Unlike the slightly cheaper consumer grade models, it isn't loaded with a ton of crapware from the factory. The Vostro also includes next business day on-site service in the event of a hardware failure under warranty (no dropping it off at Geek Squad and having it disappear into a black hole for six weeks ;) ). If your son has a term paper due in a few days if/when the PC tanks, this will be a life saver. Last time I checked, Vostro notebooks started around $430 at www.dell.com.

    Hope this helps. :)
