I am in the market for a new laptop to replace my Acer Aspire 5050 that is running XP. I use my computer to stream movies and music, download music and to do research on the internet. I am not big into gaming but I do like to stream music while I have half a dozen or so other windows open. I also do some database management stuff for some non profits using Fellowship One and Quickbooks. I would like to spend between $600-$800 and wouldn't rule out a refurbished MacBook unless someone convinced me that that was a bad idea.

MajorGeeks is my go to place for advice on software and computer maintenance and I know this group is quite opinionated (in a good way) so thought there had to be at least a few of you who would be willing to make some suggestions. Thanks, Brenda

If you want to stay with Windows, I'd look seriously at Dell's Vostro Series (available online only at Dell's web site). The Vostro is Dell's Business-Grade series:

    * Little (if any) preinstalled crapware.

    * In some cases, better grade parts than consumer grade Dell models.

    * The warranty features next business day on-site service at no extra cost - way better than shipping it off for who knows how long if something breaks.
