hello everyone , this is my first post in this forum :)

i have laptop HP pavilion dv6 with quad core amd A6 1.6ghz , dual graphics card AMD , one integrated and one dedicated(AMD radeon hd6520g) , total GFX ram is 3.5K and total ram is 6k

my problem is that i play games ALLOT , dota2 , wow ,etc

and its summer , you all know what this means...

i live by my own as student in an apartment ,so i can't keep AC on to keep laptop cold because last time i did that i ended up with 200$ electricity bill...

so i need your help guys , what can i do to reduce heat problem ... ? i took off my the ram/HDD cover and i have fan under laptop but its totally not helping with this heat

am planning to change my thermal paste and to dust up my laptop , but i need something to keep laptop as cooled as possible while i play because it shat down twice due to heat and this NEVER happened before.

p.s: i always play on power savor + no OC whatsoever done on cpu/gpu's .
thank you in advance for your time.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You might be able to get better cooling by going to a larger CPU heatsink/fan, but check the mounting options carefully. There are a few HP boards that do not allow using a standard AM3/AM3+ fan mounting option.

If the video cards are overheating, you might be able to install these if you have room in the case (note that you'll usually need two open slots for each on the back of the PC for proper air flow):

Finally, what is the air temperature in the room around the time things overheat? If it's above 85F, your only option may be to drop the temp. of the room. If it's in a smaller (roughly 9' x 12') room where you can close the door, you might be better investing in a small (5,000 - 8,000 BTU) window air conditioner (about $150 at Walmart or Home Depot). It'll cost much less to operate than a central AC system that cools the entire apartment.

    Hope this helps. :)

You may be better off going with Liquid Cooling. As for the utility bill being $200, you only need to pull the humidity out of the room, and even if you keep the thermostat at say 76, and run a ceiling fan, or pillar fans, it would be better than having the windows open and not running the a/c.

What do you do come Winter time and it is low temps, run portable heaters?
