A couple of days ago I had to reformat my hard drive and reload XP Pro. I then removed the Microsoft JVM (via the MS removal tool) and tried to install Sun Java RE 1.5. No go. The control panel says it installed okay but i cannot run java applets in IE6. I have done all of the obvious things, like enable Sun java and scripting within IE6 and enabled IE6 within the Java control panel. I have installed sun java many times before and never had a problem until now.

Try this untick the IE plugin installation option in the Java Plugin Control Panel applet, click "apply" then tick and apply again to make it reinstall the plugin.

And Hey! - if the above good advice does not work, download/install Firefox - you may then find the problem is not apparent using FF

"download/install Firefox" .....That doesn't fix the problem, and you could post this to just about every thread.

Anyway, you still need Internet Explorer for Micro$$oft sites and applications.

Run C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\jucheck.exe This will give you a result on whether or not you have java installed.

Also, if you run C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02\bin\javacpl.exe, check the Advanced tab and click the plus next to <APPLET>. Is IE checked?
