I don't have a bike at the moment. My last one was destroyed in New Orleans while I was Mardi gras'ing,,, (is that a word?)

My job??? I just post here to be entertained by all of you intelligent folks. It makes me feel smarter. :)

No problems X. I have Civil war rank epaulets, a musket used in the Antietam conflict, and a full case of beer. :D

  25. lostkiwi

    lostkiwi MajorGeek

Now see! You can put the epaulets on your jacket, grab the musket and go sit on the porch, drink the beer and shoot Gila Monsters :D :D
    I wouldn't be bored if I did that :)
Crazy maybe but not bored :D :p

  26. dperino

    dperino Capt. Caveman

    Uh,, no. But, thanks,,,

  28. dperino

    dperino Capt. Caveman

Have you ever seen a Gila monster get splattered by a musketball? I don't want to have to clean up that mess,,,

  29. lostkiwi

    lostkiwi MajorGeek

    Have you? :D
Never seen a real Gila Monster.
    Or a musketball.
Probably would be kind of messy then.
Oh well I'll try and think of a new game to play :p

  30. dperino

    dperino Capt. Caveman

No. I've seen the monsters, and the musketballs,, but never the two together.

Well, then - put the epaulets on the Gila Monster, put beer on the porch and shoot at the beer with your musket.

Considering the accuracy of the muskets, you should have plenty of beer left to drink. ;)

Hey kiwi. See everyone was in earlier. Where did everyone go. Hang, I am bored to death. No offense, but dande just doesn't do it for me.

Hi smt, I have been popping in and out (mostly out), being as it's Sunday and all and I have been trying to study (blecch) all day.
Want to quit but I need to put in some serious concentration time. Have 2 tests coming up and then I can give it a break for a while and then start getting more hours in at work.
    How was your weekend?

  38. Shiver Me Timbers

    Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

Well it's hot here tonight. Looking at the temp in my house it's 76 degrees. To me that's very uncomfortable.

    What are you studying?

Real Estate licence. I have to get it coz I am senior assistant to the broker and I have to be able to quote prices (illegal w/o it). I do a lot of computer work, accounting and liasing between buyers/sellers/agent/ and escrow etc. I am the great peacemaker!
I am convinced this job is punishment for all the cool jobs I've had all over the world:D

LOL, our low will probably be about 70F! Winter's snow is a distant memory. :)

  40. Shiver Me Timbers

    Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

I was a secretary for Re/Max years ago. As I remember it...............real estate was very boring. I hope you like it though. After your done, are you going to get a raise?

I would love just one year of 70F. I do like snow, I just hate the sub zero temps. As for the gusty winds, snow drifts and all that other stuff.........I wouldn't miss it if it would go away.

  41. lostkiwi

Yes, I get salary and a percentage of the commission. Nice when I don't have to actually sell. May consider that though, the market here is booming.

  42. Phantom

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

Welp, there's another coincidence. I actually got my Real Estate Licence when we first moved over here.

I soon realised I would rather stick to the Chemistry fields, though!

The Licence expired after three years, so it's long gone, and I aint sorry!

  43. Shiver Me Timbers

    Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

Is the percentage there 3 and 3? Here it was 3% for listing and 3% for selling. Considering the listing prices and selling prices, our agents were starving. Just not much of a commission on a $15,000 to $30,000 home. If they were lucky they would sell 2 or 3 places a year.

  44. lostkiwi

    lostkiwi MajorGeek

Oh my god! 15k to 30k? You can't even buy vacant land for that here! In our area an average house will sell for at least 145K, more likely 175. Most are around 250K now. And we are rural. Commission is negotiable, 4-6%, commercial 10%. Can't keep homes on the market. No foreclosed properties available. Ridiculous. Good if you want to sell and move out of the area, not so good if you want to sell and move up or build.
@Phantom, chemistry would at least be a more stable job. I didn't pick this, it was offered to me and as a chance to get back in the work force I took it. ;)

  45. Phantom

    Phantom Brigadier Britches

Yes being a Chemist was great, until it made me sick and nearly killed me. Industrial Gold ming chemicals aren't nice at all.

I think my % of Real Esate would have been 3% as well. Yet another reason it sucked! I never stuck around long. It was basically making everone else rich.

  46. Shiver Me Timbers

    Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

lol, you would starve around here. We have a lot of homes and vacant lots for sale, no buyers, and all low priced. I own a 2+ bedroom bungalow, purchased it 12 years ago when the market was good, has 1 acre of land and only paid $36K. That was considered high at the time. It also came with a swimming pool and satellite dish. It's totally private, vacant land around me...and a whole lot of wildlife for entertainment.

Well it's sunday night and I am bored to death. Guess I should have started a "I lost dperino", thread. Go figure, I would have expected him in tonight. Hey, Musky said he went fishing today, you think he used dp as the anchor for his boat?

Musky if you did .....   No one does that to a Talibong member and gets away with it. Tomorrow when you log in you had better hope dp has been in.

  49. Shiver Me Timbers

    Shiver Me Timbers MajorGeek

Umm, Musky, I am sorry for thinking you did something to dp.

  50. Phantom

The average price for a four bedroom, two bathroom brick and tile bungalow around here (which is the average 'Joe Citizen' dwelling in these parts), is (Au) $250,000 to (Au) $350,000! Half a million dollar homes are common. Keep in mind this state has about 300,000 square miles of land!

Now even factoring in that our (crappy) dollar is only worth (U.S.) $0.75c, that's a lot of cash!!
