    hello,
my school is participating in the super computer challenge, the only problem is we do not have a good question.
i was hoping someone can give me a few good ideas that would be easy to model and play with.
looking for : network security, viruses, or anything in the computer science feild.
    thank you.

I did something like this in college where i demonstrated some cool hacks you can do to the windows registry to "customize" the windows interface. some of them were neat tricks to pull on friends like banning shutdowns and removing icons in My Computer. Stupid stuff like that.
i dunno how technical youre trying to get though.

How quick can the internet be made to go, using current tech or proposed future tech.

    Internet3 if you wish.

ummm lol these are all great questions,
but we were looking from something along the lines of networking and viruses,
how fast can a virus spread across a network, and what does it infect, lol
i wanted to create a virus and actually infect a pc.
but my teacher said that they wouldnt allow that becuase we might infect there network haha what kinda person would do that rolleyes

Think of the next level of computer security.

We have "firewalls" to protect our networks, SPAM filters to protect our mail, Anti-virus to protect our PC's.

The cell phone antivirus will be as common as the PC type very soon. The difficulty is only that there are so many different platforms for the handsets.....But they all use the same NETWORKS.

thats a really good idea though. all youd need are a few spare computers and a switch. you could just make a small network not connected to your school network and you wouldnt have to worry about spreading your virus.

yeah i have explained how i would do it to them but they still wont allow it, although i really dont need there permission,
whateva whateva i do what i want lol.
but no i think i will use this, but the only problem is actually keeping track of the infection, what kind of virus would i use,
or maybe i can write a worm program that isnt harmful, or maybe just write a VB program or java to emulate the spread of a virus, but i still need to figure out how to emulate a network if i cant physicaly build one
    :cool
