After taking a quick look over at Super Utilities Pro home page, one of the credits it gives itself is a MajorGeek Editor's pick which i do not see on today's (Nov.16 2004) webpage. Did the Major forget to add "pick" at the end?

Nope, didnt award it, but a lot of people use it for linking because they find it. I guess most files here are a pick since we hand select everything to make sure it works and is spyware and virus free. Not sure if I should chase these down or not, your thoughts? Thats 2 I know of...

Guess you probably can't nor want to bring them to court or anything but does confirm the old principle, you give and an inch and people take a foot!

MG is a trusted name these days (or at least for the enlightened it is ;)), even getting on the site is an achivement, but personally I think people passing off an editors pick is a bit underhanded, if you know what I mean.

Agreed. As I said, the one reason I dont sweat it *too* much is that as goldie said we do approve each and every file, so I guess everything is an editors pick. Another thought is that it is simply awarded to programs we ourself use or have used in the past and loved. Frankly, getting a HOT icon draws more attention. Not that our word isnt good, its just people like to try the popular stuff, naturally :) I dont think editors pick has gone to any more then 10-20 people because of our unique way of doing things.

As an example, I had this same argument with a author (I prefer to leave names out) here some time back who felt he deserved pick over hot, but in all honesty, I used the other program more, so it got my pick only because I just preferred it. His program was indeed excellent and got the hot icon, imho, a better choice, but this author opted to hate me for it. So, it seems you cant win even when you try :(

Actually -- If I am not mistaken -- which, if you ask my wife, I often am.

We awarded that PRIOR to our actual "pick" icons and when the program was freeware.

Major, i think your judgement with regards to many things and not just software is pretty good. If you have a tough time to judge and decide which software deserves a "pick" and the other a "hot", i'm sure it's not always easy to decide.

Just for the record. I decided to remove Super Utilities today and it caused my laptop XP to reboot without me telling it to.

It could have picked it up from a previous versions even months or years ago.
