did you try re-downloading the installation file?

yes. have tried re-downloading, redownloading after a restart et al.

what could be the reason? what is the SDK all about?

Software development kit, it's a programming thing.

The first thing I usually do with software problems is to run a chkdsk. Open a command prompt (run an administrator if using Vista) and type "chkdsk c: /r" no quotes. Press enter. It will ask you to restart, so do so. If you get any errors getting fixed, post back with them. Also note if there are any bad sectors which will be displayed at the end of the chkdsk. Keep an eye on it, as the results will go away shortly after the chkdsk finishes.

what happens when you try to run them?

Also, what OS are you using. I think it is XP but I want to be sure.

it is win xp pro SP 2.. in fact, just today, i was able to systematically update it (64 patches were missing) and then load SP3..

so as we speak, its SP 3.

tried installing SAS again. same result.

    md2lgyk I can't follow the rules

SP3 has caused problems for many folks. Have you tried uninstalling it?

not yet. i have just installed in, as a matter of fact..

but the installation of SAS has been a problem for the last few weeks..

and my browser page also opens to a http:/// and 'this page cannot be displayed' message..

    dunno if they are connected..

    have already run SFC Scannow

I am still wondering why chkdsk is not working, can you explain what happens when you try?

You may try running it from the recovery console.

    thanks Senils

    thanks Mark

will try the repair install and revert.

two (pertinent, hopefully, given that i dunno much abt these machines) queries -
    a. how much time (on an average) does repairinstall take? and,

    b. considering the fact that i have SP3 and Win XP Pro, do i need to do any of that slipstream stuff? i have a Win XP SP3 CD just in case..
